Paul Gray was an American musician. He was best known as the bassist and the primary songwriter for Slipknot. Paul Gray was born in Los Angeles, California. Later his family moved to Des Moines, Iowa. Paul Gray has performed in bands such as Vexx, Nuclear Blast, Body Pit, and Inveigh Catharsis. Paul Gray was one of 3 original members of Slipknot remaining in the band. He was also one of the two members that were not born in Iowa (the other is Jim Root, who was born in Las Vegas). Slipknot released the Download 2009 performance on DVD in memory of Paul Gray in 2010. On May 24, 2010, The Des Moines Register reported that Gray had been found dead in room 431 at the Towneplace Suites hotel in Urbandale, Iowa. That was at about 10:50 a.m. local time. There was an autopsy done on Paul Gray. The autopsy determined that no foul play or trauma was involved, but it still didn't establish the cause of death. Paul Gray is survived by his wife Brenna and their daughter. He has a brother named Tony who worked for the band for many years. The day after Paul Gray died, a formal press conference was held in Des Moines, Iowa. They didn't take any questions from the media. The remaining Slipknot memers, Gray's brother, Tony, and wife, Brenna, paid tribute to him. There was another autopsy done on Paul Gray. On June 21, 2010, the results of the autopsy were released and stated that Paul Gray had died of an accidental overdose of morphine and fentanyl, and had shown signs of "significant heart disease". Shawn Crahan said: "He was kind of the person in the band that really wanted everybody in the band to always get along and just concentrate on the band. He was a really great friend and just a great person. He's going to be sadly missed, and the world is going to be a different place without him."
